Portuguese Foreign minister arrives in Luanda

ANGOLA, February 15 - Luanda -The Foreign Affairs minister of Portugal, Augusto Santos Silva, arrived Thursday, in Luanda, for a two-day State visit to prepare the visit of the president of this European country to Angola in March this year.,

In Luanda, the Portuguese diplomat and his delegation where received in the Angolan capital’s airport by the country’s Foreign Affairs minister, Manuel Augusto, and other individualities.

 

Making a briefing to the press, the Portuguese Foreign minister said he is in Luanda to prepare the sate visit of his country’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, scheduled for March this year, at the invitation of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.

 

According to the Portuguese top diplomat, his visit is also aimed at assessing the degree of implementation of the agreements signed in November of 2018 during the visit of the Angolan president to Portugal.

 

The diplomat is also due to meet with Angola’s Foreign Affairs minister, Manuel Augusto.

 

The two nations established diplomatic relation in March 9 of 1976.

 

The diplomatic relation between the two nations has been extremely dynamic, which led the Portuguese prime minister, António Costa, to make an official visit to Angola in September 2018.

 

In the same year, the Angolan President, João Lourenço, at the invitation of the Portuguese counterpart, paid a three-day state visit to Portugal aimed at boosting the cooperation between the two countries.

 

Both governments have agreements on air transport with a view to increasing the number of connections between the two countries, as well as a cooperation protocol between the Public Debt Management Unit and its Portuguese counterpart, the Treasury and Public Debt Management Agency (IGCP).

 

Angola and Portugal sealed the new 2018/2022 Strategic Cooperation Programme and an agreement on "mutual administrative assistance in tax matters" - the latter related to the introduction of VAT in Angola.

 

This agreement aims to establish the bases for mutual administrative assistance in tax matters and for cooperation in the introduction of VAT in Angola, already within the framework of the General State Budget (OGE) of 2019.

 

Other agreements cover diverse areas such as security, health, technical-military assistance, as well as delegated cooperation projects of the European Union in Angola, involving such matters as food safety, the revitalization of technical education and vocational training.
