WICHITA, Kan. — Horton’s Furniture here is going out of business after 78 years, and owners Steve Elpers and Dilman Morris will retire when the store’s liquidation sale ends.
Horton’s Furniture was founded by Frank and Frances Horton in their hometown of Argonia, Kansas, in 1946. The Hortons established their business as a friendly and welcoming place to shop for top quality furniture and always prioritized caring for their customers. After 22 years in Argonia, Horton’s Furniture moved to Wichita where it continued to expand, quickly becoming one of Wichita’s largest furniture showrooms. Elpers and Morris bought the company from the Hortons in 1997.
“I am grateful to our loyal customers across the states of Kansas and Oklahoma for their patronage over the past 78 years,” said Elpers. “A special thanks to our exceptional staff for their dedication to making Horton’s Furniture a great shopping experience.”
Planned Furniture Promotions is handling all of Horton’s going-out-of-business details and events.

Horton’s Furniture opens its going-out-of-business sale to the public on April 25. The 55,000-square-foot showroom’s sale will feature brands including Barcalounger, Best, Bassett, Craftmaster, Fjords, Howard Miller, Hooker, HomeStretch, King Hickory, La-Z-Boy, Pulaski, Serta, Simmons and Vaughan-Bassett.
