A mum said her daughter is lucky to be alive after part of a wall suddenly fell inside a Wetherspoons pub. Sheri Richmond was having lunch with her family in the Folkestone branch - The Samuel Peto - on Saturday (March 18) when there was a sudden crash.

Sharing pictures of the broken wall, Sheri said others may want to "think twice" before visiting the Rendezvous Street pub, which is a former Baptist chapel built in 1873. She told KentLive: "We sat upstairs at the table, I went down with my son to order the food, went back upstairs and sat down, after 5/10 mins max I heard a loud bang and saw all bits flying around us.

"I thought at first someone had thrown a glass at the wall and it smashed but when I turned to my daughter I saw a big piece of concrete next to her. I'm just so lucky it didn't hit her head as she would have been dead."

She took photos and a video of the aftermath, which show splatters of what looks like concrete or plaster. In another image a large part of the wall is missing.

Sheri said she told the manager what had happened and they said they would close off that booth. But she was concerned about the safety of the building, having heard of another incident the week before.

She said part of the ceiling downstairs had fallen off and hit a man's foot. She added: "People should think twice before going here, especially with kids. I'm so lucky my little girl is not dead right now. The staff did apologise and give us a refund for our meal."

A spokesman for Wetherspoons said: "We confirm that a small section of decorative masonry came loose from around the window near to the customers' table and fell to the floor. The area has been cordoned off and the necessary repairs will be carried out alongside a check the area to ensure its safety.

"We believe the other incident the customer was referring to was in relation to a small section of the underside of the bar which came away some weeks ago. This has been repaired."
