HÀ NỘI — Agencies, organisations and localities which worked on the summit between Chairman of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump in Hà Nội and the reception for the two leaders last month were commended at a conference in Hà Nội on Wednesday.

They included the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Public Security, Defence, Information and Communications; the Government office; the People Committees of Hà Nội, Hải Phòng, Hải Dương, Lạng Sơn, and Quảng Ninh; and the National Convention Centre. On the occasion, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc sent letters to the Vietnam News Agency, Radio The Voice of Vietnam and the Vietnam Television for their efforts.

Speaking at the event, head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education Võ Văn Thưởng said he appreciated the spirit and working attitude of domestic news agencies, saying the event offered a good chance for them to collect valuable lessons and learn from experience of foreign news agencies.

In his speech at the conference, Prime Minister Phúc praised the outstanding efforts of leaders and staff.

The summit had helped raise Việt Nam’s reputation, he said. It was good preparation for Việt Nam’s candidacy to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2020-21 tenure, and helped strengthen confidence of overseas Vietnamese abroad in the leadership of the Party and State, the PM stressed.

He also highly valued a number of units for their initiatives in organising the related events, especially the Vietnam News Agency for arranging the “Việt Nam-DPRK Relations” photo exhibition. He asked sectors and localities to tap the opportunities brought by the events to boost socio-economic development, promote the image of Việt Nam’s people and tourism potential, and attract investment. — VNS
