A majority of Americans in a new poll views President Trump’s first year in office as a failure.

An NPR–PBS NewsHour–Marist poll finds 53 percent of Americans view Trump’s first year in the White House as a failure. About one-third view Trump’s first year as a “major failure.”

Forty percent of Americans, however, view Trump’s first year in office as a success or a major success.

{mosads}According to the poll, 46 percent of Americans say Trump has fallen below their expectations as president. Just 15 percent say Trump has exceeded their expectations and 34 percent say he has met their expectations.

Just more than half of Republicans, 51 percent, say Trump has met their expectations and 28 percent say he has exceeded their expectations.

A majority of Americans, 61 percent, also thinks Trump has divided the country since taking office.

The poll was conducted from Jan. 8 to 10 among 1,350 adults. The margin of error is 2.7 percentage points.

During his first year in office, Trump struggled to achieve some of his key campaign promises, such as repealing ObamaCare.

In December, Trump signed a sweeping Republican tax bill into law, marking his first major legislative accomplishment since winning the White House.
