White House spokeswoman responds to Mika Brzezinksi’s attacks: ‘Sad’

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday night called attacks on her for doing her job “sad.”

In particular, she responded to MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski’s attacks, which Fox News host Laura Ingraham called particularly “personal.”

“I think it’s sad they’re attacking a lot of us while claiming to champion women’s causes and women’s issues,” Sanders said on “The Ingraham Angle.”

Brzezinski has blasted Sanders for standing by “reprehensible” comments Trump makes, most recently Trump’s comments about Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) after she called for him to resign. Trump tweeted that the senator “would do anything” for campaign contributions, a comment many read as sexual innuendo.

Sanders in a briefing denied that the comment was sexist “at all.”

“If they want to focus on petty attacks, that’s fine, let them have at it. While doing that, we’re gonna get tax cuts passed in this country, continue to grow the economy,” Sanders said on “The Ingraham Angle.”

Sanders said that Trump is “focused on empowering women” by placing women – including herself – in high positions in the administration.

Sanders’ comments echo the defense this week from her father, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), who slammed “the women who say they are feminists” but attack his daughter.
