Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on terrorist attack in Burkina Faso
Statement attributable to Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General:
The Secretary-General condemns the terrorist attack perpetrated on 13 August in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The Secretary-General extends his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Burkina Faso and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Secretary-General stresses that there can be no justification for such acts of indiscriminate violence. He reiterates the support of the United Nations to Burkina Faso in its fight against violent extremism and terrorism. He also reaffirms the Organization’s commitment to the countries of the G5 Sahel as they scale up efforts to tackle multiple security challenges in order to promote peace and development in the sub-region.Â
