The Iowa Democratic party pulled back the curtain Tuesday on one of the bare essentials needed to run a well-oiled political machine in 2018: toilet paper.

Roy Pagans, director of operations for the Iowa Democrats, blasted out a fundraising email seeking contributions o help cover the costs of the things needed “to keep running on all cylinders” ahead of the midterm elections this fall.

“We make sure our offices have everything — from clipboards to waters bottles to tables and chairs. And yes, even toilet paper,” he said. “So please friends click here to make a donation to our Office Supply Fund. I have a lot of toilet paper to buy!!”

Mr. Pagan said the donations will help ensure the party can get its message out to as many voters as possible during the final weeks of the election cycle.

“Because without enough pens or clipboards, volunteers won’t be able to hit the doors,” he said. “And if volunteers can’t knock doors, less voters know about what’s at stake this year.”
