The defense of Ricardo Martinelli will ask the Supreme Court on Tuesday, June 19 to change the precautionary measure of provisional detention in El Renacer while he awaits trial for illegal wiretapping.

He was extradited to Panama by the US last week.
The hearing will be held from the 9:00 am. local time on Tuesday with the participation of nine justices of the plenary of the Supreme Court the only ones who can prosecute the former president given his status as a Member of the Central American Parliament  (Parlacen).
Martinelli arrived extradited on June 11, from the United States, where he was imprisoned for a year in a federal prison, and is being held in El Renacer, the minimum security prison located in the
outside of the Panamanian capital where several  members of his cabinet 2009-2government officials are also held pending trial for corruption and embezzlement. (2009- 2014) .
Among the arguments that are expected to be put forward by the defense to request the release of the former president is his
state of health, since it suffers from a series of chronic conditions, including hypertension,
